Heh...well, in all the fics I write that are movieverse, Haldir didn't die, he was just wounded and unconcious and left for dead in all the chaos of the battle. *nods sagely*
S'not like they had EKG machines in Middle-Earth, after all. And you can't really feel a heartbeat through armor. I still wanna smack Aragorn for just dropping him and trotting off, though.
*sniffs in disdain* His eyes were open, stoopid. Elves eyes only close when they're dead, so, he was still alive, farkit!

OMG so he could have been ALIVE!! *wide eyes* *hyperventilates* STUPID Aragorn! That idiot of a man.. *weeps* *nods* And the man was raised by elves, so he really shoulda known better. It's one of the things that freaked the hobbits out-that Legolas slept with his eyes open. It was either Gandalf or Aragorn, I can't remember which, who explained that if an elf's eyes were closed, they were either grievously wounded or dead.

^Oo yes... I just reread that part *nodnod* That makes sense... I cannot believe PJ did not catch that mistake...
I think Haldir's death was to give the battle a bit more depth... and when that happened, it would make everyone realise how agonizing the battle must have been, to lose a friend. Haldir was a perfect character to use for that, since he was a pretty important character in FotR, having lead them into Lórien and helping the Fellowship out. And since he did not show up anytime at all after that in any of the history, I suppose Jackson would figure that he was the perfect character to use to symbolize a big loss... since he would not be missed and nobody knows what really became of Haldir, Rúmil or Orophin. Does that make sense?

As PJs twisted plot device, yeah.
Though, honestly, the part where they were showing the little boys being handed swords was enough to make me bawl like a baby.
I still maintain that Haldir didn't die.
He wasn't really there in the first place, but even if he were, I maintain he was just wounded, and that's why we don't see him for the rest of the movie-'cuz he was laid up in one of the Houses of Healing or somesuch. *firm nod*
