He was on Arda before anyone else, the book said. But I remember some other juicy detail: Tom Bombadil wass actually a doll of one of Tolkiens kids. He used to tell them bedtime stories about this doll when they were very young. Years later, when he wroted Lord of the Rings, he inserted Tom Bombadil into the story. He didn't really belong there, but Tolkien was grown so used to this character he didn't care much

So Tolkien inserted him in the story like he is God then. Because none could have lived that much from the first raindrops till 3rd Age. I heard of Tom saved Frodo once. My friend who had read the book told me.

Yes Tom saved the four hobbit when they were on their way to Rivendell. They were attacked by some oak... what was his name?

Old Man Willow, that's it! Tom was the only one he would listen too, so the hobbits were very lucky he stepped by at that crucial moment. Tom Bombadil always talked in rimes, so everything he said sounded like a poem.
