If ye think of it like that then Legolas could be in every scene in the whole movie, just not visible in the shot. Like, he was in the scene when, say, Frodo and Sam were in the Emyn Muil, ye just couldn't see him because he was waaaay to the left (er, depends what way your facing) of the camera O, I also love the music for this scene! One of my favourites, track 16, TTT.

^I know I get it from my friends all the time. They'll be like, "Okay, why do you even watch the scenes that don't have Legolas?" and I'm like, "SHUT UP!" and pound them with whatever is handy. Usually pillows.

woot! lol Yes he's very funny. My cuz, Carmen, (yes the one and the same, Haldir!) is obsessed with tormenting me about Orlando lol! But she loves him too so it's rather redundent.

Last night, when I watched RotK again during a legolas-close-up I squeeked out loud: "Eeeeek! not that close!" He looks far better from a distance... ;D

Ah, ye made me sploosh... Hah, Orlando's 'pretty' from any distance to me, it's just certain angles from which he doesn't look so great. As far as looks go, I don't think 'Lando is the greatest of all. But that's just my little opinion which will probably be overruled by half the female population of the world.

That scene was at the end of one of the trailers and it really got my attention, espically when the wall of horses crash threw the pikes. Then it flashed to "The Two Towers" I admit that I went and saw the movie for the first time just to find out how that worked out with them.
Now, As for the "physics" of that scene, The hill is really, really steep but if you watch the riders for the most part they are leaning back as far as they can, which is abseloutely correct becuase it counteracts the balence of a horse. I rode horses for 9 years so stay with me while I try to explain this, my instructor was once yelling at me (One of many times!) that I was leaning too far forward and throwing off the balence of the horse, she compared it to having a child sit on your shoulders and when they lean forward it throws you off balence becuase you run downwards.
When you are riding a horse, you lean forward going uphill and stay way back in the saddle when going do, it also depends on how steep the incline is of course, you gauge it from there.
Amazing scene, all though done mostly by computers becuase of they had used real horses they would have proably stumbled, gone and down and been trambled.

I have no idea if the physics in that scene would have worked out, so I'll go with Anwyn for that. There is one thing that totally bugs me about that scene though. The fact that the riders crashed directly into a wall of pikes is ridiculous. Pikes were used as a counter against cavalry. The riders would have had way more trouble breaking a wall of pikemen.

I agree with Anwyn. It is possible to do that- It'd be awefully hard to stop, but it is possible! I mean, forget about horses for now, just think about yourself. You can run down a hill like that. You'll probably go faster than you'd like and you might fall down, but it's possible.
And anyway, in my opinion horses would be more sure-footed than we are. That's not the only movie I've seen do shots like that.

The side of the hill was also alot of shale (loose stone, whatever you like to call it) If you watch really closely you can see it going flying in all directions when they first start down, I think that it would also help there footing *somewhat* though you could not stand in one place too long or else you would sink into it, it would give better going on horse back than sheer rock.
As for the pikes, It also looks like ALOT of the Uruk hai holding the spears turned away, becuase as the Rohirrim are charging down the hill and the sun is rising behind them, they are shying away from the light though supposedly it would not bother them in the same way that it would Orcs, though it would still dazzle there eyes giving at least most of the horsemen enough chance to break through and start the charge.

I can only agree with Anwyn on the spears-matter. It was actually, also according to the book, part of the plan to charge at sunrise to block the enemies view. You may have noticed most spears backed up when the sun hitted their eyes in the movie.
About the horse thing, now that we know a little more about horse balance and such, do we now think this was not computer animated?
