If Middle-earth didn't have Elves.. then the whole "War of the Ring" fiasco wouldn't have happened.. because the Elves played a big role in the makings of the Rings of Power... and Celebrimbor made the Three (Nenya, Narya. Vilya) more powerful than the rest..

If there were no elves, then Sauron would've just appeared to one of the dwarf craftsmen, and the rings probably would've still been made. Whether they'd have been as powerful or not, who's to say? But, Celebrimbor certainly wasn't the only one capable of forging the rings, though there would've been three less if the elves didn't exist to take them. And...if there weren't elves, there wouldn't have been an Isildur, because he was descended from Elros, Elrond's twin, who forsook the life of an elf in favor of mortality, and was the first in the line of kings that went down all the way to Aragorn. So...there probably wouldn't be a Gondor. Sorry, Boromir. What else...no orcs, but that could've been countered in a lot of ways. From greater dominion over men, further corruption of natural animals... Picture a few hundred more Shelob-like spiders. Maybe Ungoliant would still exist, even. Depends on the circumstances, I think. The Nazgul in all liklihood would've still existed. Probably the flying fell beasts they rode in RotK would still exist... Smaug would probably still be alive, because no elves means that Thranduil's forces wouldn't have joined in the battle and the settlement at Long Lake would be smoking ruin, if anything was left at all. Balrogs would be running rampant, I'm sure. No Glorfindel to pick off a few here and there. And they wouldn't have had a reason to go into hiding in the first place, so the dwarves would never have had Moria to lose. The trolls would also be a much bigger problem than they were with elves around. Barrow Wights would probably run rampant... Wow. It's amazing how many things the elves were involved in. *gapes*

They were the first beings after the Valar. Okay, the dwarves almost ruined that one, but still
