And the wildmen Well true ... it would be a tad hard for Elendil to overthrow a Maiar .. it's like trying to overthrow Gandalf the White, but worse

*is still recovering from the whole idea of their being no elves* *recovers enough to agree with Telpeath* Yes, overthrowing a Maia I would categorize as near impossible.

I don't think Elendil would be able to overthrow a Maiar though ... he would have been welcome to try of course, but he could never defeat him ;D

Yes, but he did have the Ring (didn't he? By this point?) So that gave him nearly as much power as Sauron.

No ... Elendil died before Sauron was defeated.

well sauron was utterly defeated at the end of the 3rd age but sauron was defeated at the end of the 2nd age by Erenion Gil-Galad and Elendil The Tall.

Nope, Elendil died in the Siege of Barad-dûr ... after that happened, Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand. Gil-galad, Elendil and Anárion all died in the Siege, but Isildur defeated Sauron AFTER the Siege.

well they DID defeat sauron in a way ... by marshaling their armies and going to Mordor, but they definitely all died before Isildur defeated Sauron.

well sauron was utterly defeated at the end of the 3rd age but sauron was defeated at the end of the 2nd age by Erenion Gil-Galad and Elendil The Tall. Oh right! I mixed him up with Isildur for a second there.

Yeh, here is a rundown of the last alliance for all! The armies of the Last Alliance marched into mordor! Saurons forces attacked and finally, Sauron himself fought! Gil-Galad was disinigrated by Sauron Picking him up and using his powers (My Father, May you Rest in Pease), then Elendil attacked and got killed. Isildur got fathers sword, sword broke from being stepped on, Isuldur Cut the ring off, Sauron blows up, Isuldur inherits the ring, almost but doesnt cast it into the fire of Mordor, leaves, dies eventually.
That is the run-down of TLA!
