I myself have never read the Simlarillion for the simple reason that I cannot find it. But If anyone has read it, please share some general info!

Alright, let's do this all together now! Continue the storyline as far as you like to go in your own words. Make the pieces of storyline recognisable (I used bold & Maroon colour), so we can discuss around them in regular size and font. I think this will work. Or at least we can give it a shot. I'll start.. Once upon a time.. a looooooong time ago.. the was only Eru, the One. Who is known in Arda as Ilúvatar. A god-like creature. There was nothing else.

And this Iluvatar created the Ainur out of his thoughts, also godlike creatures, because they do not die, they can change their look and so on. And Iluvatar tought them to sing and to play some instruments.

All the Ainur (a.k.a. Valar) sang along with Ilúvatar to his theme. Then one of them, Melkor, who had been gifted with more skills than the rest of them for some reason, decided to sing his own song according to his theme. So he did, and this caused much discord. Eru just smiled and sang his own different song, but the discord of Melkor continues. Eru got a little annoyed so he started yet another song, but still Melkor's discord lived. So he got very angry.

Oww this is going to be good!
Melkor had a will of his own. He was jealous of what all the other Ainur created with their songs and tried to destroy what they made with his own song. The living things, the elves and men, feared Melkor and named him Morgoth.

Aww, lol.. But that's a great summary! I can't give that to people who, unlike you, simply can't be bothered to read the whole thing..

I have to admit, I didn't read the whole thing as well. I've got only the English version, cuz I'm such a purist and I want to know the original names and such. But that's tough!! I'm saving it for my holidays now. I think the sound of breaking waves and seagulls will do the thing And I read the whole summary now, so that might ease things up a little. Nice website, Faithless

I don't know of an online version if that's what you're looking for, but I'm sure you could find the book on ebay.

I love the Silmarillion, except I never coveted it the way I do now. It is very sad that you do not own a copy. I dont either and I feel your pain!
