Aww thanks! *exalt* But that wouldn't do any good, would it?? ;D
Dutch would be a very interesting language to learn though. It has so many rules it doesn't make sense to foreigners at all! We have 3 different words for 'the' for example. They have to be used carefully, but there's no one in this country who can explain exactly how. It's a good tool to recognize foreigners by. We do it right, they do it wrong... yeah I know that's just cruel ;D

There are rules for it! And we only have 2 words for the: 'de' & 'het'. 'Een' is a word for a/an Eyalan. You use 'de' for words that are male or female and 'het' for words that are (how do you call that?) without gender. Lol, I even know the Latin word for it but not the English word!

Without Gender??? that would be female, folca... You are right so far, but what are the rules about which gender is what word? And there's the trick question. Oh never mind, I'm not good at teaching Dutch in another language...

Female is a gender. Omg, look in your profile you can choose which gender you are: male or female. Without gender is neutrum. Yeah, it's not easy to see in Dutch by some words, words like 'man' and 'vrouw' (=wife) are easy, but 'stoel' (= chair) is not so easy. It is: 'de stoel' and I think it's because Dutch and German are related and come from the same language and in German it is: 'die Stuhle', -e so it's female and in Dutch it's also female and therefore it gets a: 'de'. (I'm not good in explaining things in English, can I do it in Dutch? )

I follow you perfectly... So we just have to look to the German rules to explain the gender of the Dutch words? That makes sense. And all that explained in English, you're going great Folca ;D But then, how do we explain 'das boot'? Boot is a male word in Dutch, but it has no gender in German.

There goes my theory. Maybe it was in earlier Dutch het boot? But just doesn't sound good, so they made de boot of it. ;D

Yeah I'd love that! After all, we are somewhat like sister sites ;D I can understand if you can't put my site on yours, for it wouldn't do anything for me, but I was thinking of having your site affiliated on Periannath the other day actually. All I need is a button (size 88x31 pixels) about your site and I will be happy to save you a spot.
