I know many are speculating about the 'Hobbit' been made into a movie. But it concernes me really... Here's why:
1. No women are involved in the story. Without women, the potential audience will absolutely shrink. Though The Hobbit does have plenty of background to support female add-ins (such as Gandalf’s fear that Sauron would attack Lorien where Galadriel lived but that might even be a stretch). And will Cate Blanchet do Galadriël again then? If not, who could ever replace her? That brings us to my next point:
2. Besides Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis (and maybe Ian Holmes), there would be hardly any actors from LOTR in The Hobbit. This would make hardcore LOTR movie fans a bit disappointed.

Ever seen the movie "The Great Escape"? There are no women in the whole thing, but it's still an awesome movie. I would love to see the Hobbit made into a movie, provided they do it right.

Perhaps the women thing is indeed a bit overrated, but I'm so terrified I'll be so disappointed!

I know what you mean- when LOTR first came out, I didn't want to see it because I was afraid it would ruin the books for me. But eventually, my curiosity got the best of me and I saw it. I'm glad I did!

Well I voted yes. They can always add in women, just like they added Arwen. I know she was mentioned somewhat in the book, but PJ really brought her out. So, they could do the same. And you never know, they can use some of the actors in LOTR for some small roles, but introduce new charactors!

Mmmmm who cares if there aren't women? The Hobbit is a great book and I'd expect the movie to be too!

It must be very frustrating for Peter Jackson now that he knows the peoples' expectations are really high!

Yes, I would love to see how they make out with Smaug.

Click on the Hobbit banner on the footer of the forum and check it out! It sounds convincing

And you never know, they can use some of the actors in LOTR for some small roles, but introduce new charactors! That's very true! Arwen is hardly mentioned at all, let alone her relationship with Aragorn, but PJ really did a good job with that. But also like Haldir said, it's really neither here nor there if there are women in the movie. There are going to be a lot of rumors circulating anyway because it's the Hobbit (and this time, finally, I read the book first!) And knowing PJ, I don't think we'll be disappointed

I would love to see "The Hobbit" made into a movie. Like you all said, They could always add women. Maybe put some women in the parts that take place in the Shire and during the parts in Mirkwood, Women Elves and Hobbits. I also think they would do a great job with Smaug, I mean, The Dragons in the "Eragon" movie look like they turned out great and if "The Hobbit" is made into a film, they said it would be around 2009, 2010, Somewhere around then, and technology would be even greater.
