Men have death and can leave middle earth and go beyond it to what i believe is far better then with the valar. However the elves have some good stuff too.
Of course immortality just isnt my style...

Hmm I think Elves do... "First born" right? I think they were favoured by the Valar.

Men surely. Being from line of Numeroan(spelling?) blood is greatest gift of all. On the other hand, being an elf is great gift as well if you look from the brighten side of immortality and being graceful but I could not stand living with the pointed ears.

Men ofcourse, living for ever sounds nice, but I think that it would become boring after a few 1000 years. When you have done everything there is to do, it will become very boring.

That's presicely what I would be worried about. What to do with all the time you got? I don't think becoming the best at something is a very likely thing to do for elves. I mean, there's always someone wiser and older who had more practice. Where's the fun in that?

Well, they CAN die by the sword, which is what kills most of them off... because most Elves end up fighting sooner or later. And since they can die of great grief... what if say, an Elf's entire family has perished and he/she grew grievous of their immortal life after a long time? Wouldn't that be grief enough to die?

Elves! Elves! Elves!
^I don't know...if their families are immortal as well, it's not like they're going to outlive them...unless of course, one of them dies of a broken heart or a fatal wound.
