Me and my cousin were talking about elves (as usual) then we come to the discussion of the seasons and the living places of the elves in LOTR, she said that it's always winter in Lothlorien, and that all elves has blond hair, in Rivindel it's fall (i think) and all elves has dark hair, then what about Mirkwood? (and if there are other places where other elves lives) what season is there? and what are the hair collors there?

In Dunland, where Legolas is from, Elves have blond hair. Concidering Legolas' name, greenleaf, I assume it is summer there

Are you sure about that? It doesn't ever seem like winter in Lothlórien ... I'd say it was fall there too ... the book spoke of their Mallorn leaves falling I believe...

Yeah .. "Lothlórien" means "Lórien of the Blossom" ... or "Land of Gold of the Blossom" [something like that] ... and they were a woodland kingdom and were known for their Mallorn trees that grew there ... so I don't really think that any tree can grow in the winter ;D

Hmm interesting discussion! But seeing as it's Middle Earth, and the seasons change in the Shire and since the Elven realms are not far from the Shire (on a map, leastways) would it not make sense for the seasons to change as they did in the Shire? (because in the book, anyway, they set of from the Shire in summer and returned in the summer of the following year, I believe) While watching the appendecies of FOTR they were describing the Rivendell set and were saying that they (the elves) were in the "autumn of their lives" which meant that they were about to leave and everything, the colours and feeling of Rivendell was rather subtle. I didn't hear quite the same description of Lothlorien, and no where in the movies to you even see Mirkwood, sadly. And as for hair colours, I saw a vary of colours in Rivendell. Arwen had dark hair as did Elrond. As you can see, there's dark brown hair, black hair, even two red heads. But every elf in Lothlorien that I saw had blond hair. I believe that was to keep in the theme of "the Golden Wood".

Nope they didn't ... a great many of the Host of the Eldar were from Lórien and a lot of them had dark hair.

I thought Legolas from the book had dark hair also.. but it could be just how I pictured it as well. Did anyone pictured Legolas dark haired also?

Well, I saw the movie first *blushes* It's because I had never even heard of LOTR before FOTR came out and I was like...9 when FOTR came out. So I never had that chance to picture him in my mind, because the image was already created by the movie which I don't mind because he was played by such an attractive man ;D

I always pictured him blonde.... I read the books first with my dad when I was in second grade, about two years (I think) before the movies came out). Does it say I the books though? I can't remember....

My mom read it to me when I was about 8 or 9 ... I could never have read it myself, hehe ... and she had to explain nearly every sentence she read me ... I feel kinda sorry for her now, haha ... actually I think when I was litttle, I imagine all of the Elves looking like Santa Claus's Elves, despite the fact that Tolkien desribed them otherwise *feels stupid*
I thought Legolas was green.
