I was just wondering about a few things concerning Gandalf's come back; Why was gandalf placed in the forest, of all places, when he returned? Would it not be more sufficient to gat him at Frodo's side? To guide them into Mordor in Gollum's stead? And why did he change colour? When he died and travelled among the stars, he was naked.. where did he get the fabric to make the white robe? Or was it the work of others that dressed him up? Just bring up any thoughts you have..

I'll ask alexei when I can find her but I'm pretty sure it's the Elves that robed him. He DID go to Lórien first thing. And getting him beside Frodo would be a pretty dangerous thing to do really ...

Saruman was originally the head wizard, and he was white. Gandalf became the head after he died, and Saruman was "demoted". That's why he wore the white robes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Gandalf first visited Lorien when he came back, like Haldir said. Luthien is right with the changing colour bit. I would imagine he didn't go catch up to Frodo because Sauron probably would have noticed if Gandalf was walking around Mordor. Gandalf was more help leading armies than he would have been sneaking around.

Yes, Gandalf had Gwaihir bring him to Lothlorien; as a matter of fact, it was Galadriel who sent him (Gwaihir, I mean.).
As far as Saruman's cloke, it says.
"the color of which was not easy to tell for it changed if they moved their eyes or if he stirred." When Gandalf revealed to him that Gandalf was now Gandalf the white, he told Saruman that he now had no color and was no longer a member of the council. Saruman's staff was also broken.

I believe this is correct but also there is another reason . The ents wiull have responded to a wizard, sent by the Valar better than a mortal. Their co operation was essential as if they hadnt taken down Isengard, then Saruman could have attacked Rohan frombehind at the siege of Gondor and the rohirrim " comeing home to ruin" also as elrond said the best hope for frodo lay in secrecy, not in a wizard with bright white robes clearing a path for him as Sauroin would have bent all power into stopping Frodol ;D
