... was so unrealistic.
Like... we KNOW already that the Elves are amazing and can do nearly everything, but wasn't that a little much? Like, he was practically standing sideways on the mûmak, not even holding on to the rope yet, and he didn't fall! Yes, Elves are superb athletes, their balance is impeccable, but nowhere in any of Tolkien's books does it mention that they have the ability to stand sideways on a large moving object, while being attacked and fighting, without falling! It was cool, but a little more than surreal.

I was holding my breath at this scene! I also assumed he had to come down at that particular point.

So predictable, wasn't it? My eyes were just bulging when I was watching that... "whoaaaa, he did so not just do that."

At this point he doesn't look so certain himself too ;D But I like the pic nonetheless though. I like Legolas better when he actually does a facial expression.

Yeah, his slightly worried expression makes it a tad more realistic. That looks very very hard *tuts*

I loved that scene! Its really one of those things that makes the movie stand out as brilliant. Also when Legolas skates on the shield.. Ha, he always gets the coolest stunts

Personally I can't stand that stunt. There's a line between making the good guy look cool and making the bad guys look incompetent. And then Haldir's already pointed out how impossible the whole thing is. But maybe they got Peter Parker to be Orlando's stunt double and didn't want to waste his talents... I like Legolas better when he actually does a facial expression. Heheh!

Only LOTR-fans can notice things like that. The rest (and less unconcerned) people will just look at it and think "cooooool"
like I did *cough*

Lol very true.. and alexei's right about the Parker thing XD
When I watched RotK with my class, the girls were just all cheering for sweet Leggy, oblivious to it being completely unrealistic, and the guys were practically the same, but with more of the "WHOA SWEET, DUDE".

I hate discussing LotR with people that havent read the book.. Its insane trying to explain it all. Especially while watching the movie..

I know just how you feel *pat pat* The film is just so different from the book that it's impossible to explain, unless you just tell them to read the book, period. Like, the film is excellent yeah, but it's really misleading.

The only thing I still can't get about this stunt is... HOW THE HECK DOES A WHOLE OILIPHANT ONLY COUNT AS ONE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You know, there's a LotR table top wargame, and in this game, Gimli has a higher defense than the mumak. I'm not sure if this is to reflect the whole "Legolas killed a mumak in the movie! We have to let him be able to kill it in game!" or if the game's just dumb. Maybe a bit of both.
And the whole counts as one things... well, the individual people on the mumak would count as one each (I'm not sure if they did in the film or not). But Legolas only killed one creature when it comes to the mumak itself. Uruk Hai don't count for 1.75 compared to an orc's 1. It doesn't matter how fancy you make it look!
But I'm totally biased. If you ask a movie question relating to Legolas, I either don't answer or I answer to put him down. I say, good on Gimli! A slam dunk and a layup are both worth 2 points. Some people are just too short to dunk.

I always thought they were called ouliphants...my bad *blushes* I liked that scene. Unrealistic, yes, but it just gives me another reason to like him, XD.

He's an elf... that in itself is unrealistic!
