I am re-reading LOTR, and have come across many new things I didn't discover the previous times I've read it. One thing though that really made me think was this:
Why does Tolkien caps the word Road?
Down on the Road, where it swept to the right to go round to the foot of the hill, there was a large inn. It had been built long ago when the traffic on the roads had been far greater. . . .
Did Tolkien mean, the actual road the company was taking so as to destroy the Ring, or did he mean something like the "Road" of life or destiny?

Maybe it was the name of a road... shortened? Wow, I never really noticed that!

well, that's probably coz the word road had more significance to it here...
tolkien and c.s lewis had extensive convo's 'bout their books and writings, and a lot of their works and names are fairly similar, c.s lewis uses capital letters to add more significance to certain names and places at times...though he usually mentions it...like ''something made her think it wasnt just an average door, like a door to the kitchen, but a Door of Special Significance''

It's not that deep, I was just wondering why Tolkien capitalized the word Road.
