Yes! It does! Eeep! I'm arachnaphobic and like anti-arachnid. I'm ok with spiders if they don't mess with me, but if they cross my path I'll either scream and call my little sister to come squish it, or go into a insane, mad rage and search out the spider till I kill it till its dead! Like one time I was making some cookies or something, and a spider came out of a crack behind the oven and I screamed and it ran back in. But then it came a second time and I was totally ready for it. I grabbed a paper towel and smashed it with a hysterical cry of triumph ;D.

*backs away from Melda* Why don't the elves just go in and kill them all?

I think the spiders form a good protection to where the elves live. Maybe therefore they don't want to kill them. Ofcourse the elves know the path in the forest. And as the Hobbit book says: Stick to the path! The spiders are just trying to attempt passants to go off the road so they can eat them. Do you think the road has a spell on it?

I think so because in the hobbit it said that when they fell in the water It made them sleepy.
