If Merry is short for Meriadoc, Pippin for Peregrin and Sam for Samwise... where did Frodo came from? I asked this in the stupid question tread already, but Celebriän and I agreed this was actually a good question  So here we go... Suggestions anyone? |

Frodo doesn't really have nicknames used for him like the other Hobbits, Sam calls him Mr Frodo and most others call him 'The Ring Bearer.'
Not much affection there...

Yeah it does just sound a little bit more heroic but that would make Frodo his nickname because it's less of a mouthful @_@

That's right. I figured since everyone called Frodo just Frodo, that Frodo would be his nickname  |

Or perhaps his name is just Frodo and he doesn't have a nickname or need one and ignore me because I'm rambling again.

His father's name was Drogo, wasn't it? And then there's Bilbo, so it seems at least a couple of his relatives have short names as well. His name isn't an isolated case.

Very valid point. I highly doubt that Frodo is only a nickname. After all, a whole bunch of elves refer to him as Frodo and I highly doubt an elf would ever use a nickname. I've yet to hear of an elf who did!
