Seeing as he was the son of the elf-king, do you think he would have been there? Is there any information that would suggest this?

I can't recall any information on it. I do not think he was ever mentioned in The Hobbit, by name or title or relation or anything else. I also doubt it was mentioned in LotR. The main connections between The Hobbit and LotR are Bilbo and Gandalf, and most smaller relations are pushed to the side. The change in tone between books is probably why. Having that elf who sang the "Tra-la-la-la-lally" song show up in LotR probably wouldn't work.
Legolas was not much of a main character in LotR, anyways. Tolkien either didn't care to connect him to The Hobbit, or wasn't thinking about it.

I dont think he was, but I wont try to use Tolkiens writings on him to explain my reasons. I will use the logic that the king would have probably left his son there ot rule in his stead while he was gone. This makes sense to me anyways.

I don't remember him having been mentioned in the Hobbit at all. I don't even remember Thranduil being mentioned by name, just as the 'elven king'.
Tolkien seems to have been a bit like me, in that he'd write the backstory first, and then go back and add detail and flesh things out to make connections later.
It may be that he never got around to specifying some things in the Hobbit before it was published-Eru knows he was usually working on about five things at once.

Nay, he was not mentioned (Legolas)... And aye about Thranduil Well Legolas could have been in the Battle... there are many things that Tolkien did not mention and that we think happened anyway.

Maybe we should be grateful PJ didn't do the Hobbit first...he'd have prolly put Legolas and Haldir at the Battle of Five Armies, and killed them both off in one fell swoop.

No kidding. Watching the movies, I was tripping because he just totally changed things.
Of course, at the first showing of TTT here, I think every single person in the theater starting screaming and cursing when Haldir bit it at Helm's Deep.
It got really loud-there were so many people that showed up the first night it was released here, there were four rows of people sitting in front of the first row of seats, and the entire back was packed with people standing.
So, yeah...VERY loud. And that was just the yelling. There was also the crying. Lots of that, too.
Man, we sure love our fictional characters...

I did both...first the yelling, then the crying. You'd think the President, or someone important had died, not a figment of someone's imagination. *shakes head*
