I hate to be the burster of everyone's bubbles, but Peter Jackson has confirmed that he is not doing the Hobbit. I was watching an interview today and he confirmed it. Newline is looking for another director, but it's going to be pathetic if Peter doesn't do it.

Yeah that is too bad. I have read that New Line is trying to convince to get back him into the project. I have another rumour, I heard that Sam Raimi(Spiderman series) is in talks to direct the movie but his schedule till 2009 is full.

Yikes! That's terrible news! The last thing I heard was that he and The LotR componist Howard Shore said in an interview he and Peter got together again and.. well read it yourself:
So I wonder why Peter doesn't want to do it anymore.. perhaps the money? Or maybe his family is afraid of another long time seperation again? ARGH! I just don't understand.
^ This makes it even more confusing, why this sudden change of mind? I was so thrilled to read about two movies!! Or maybe there is already someone else in the picture who wants to do it? For less money perhaps? Or sooner then after 2009?

I heard about this three days ago from my friend at school.. ugh we were so destraught. Nobody can pull it off as well as PJ can. They're making a really bad mistake.

so i've heard >_> horrible news. i'm sorry but there's no way no one else will be able to pull this off. only PJ can. this movie will probably turn out to be a downfall without him.

I agree.. I don't think they should let anyone do it but PJ. But if they're willing to take the stupid risk then whatever, lol. But it's really wrecking a nice tale.

Theres no way to tell if anyone could do a better job than PJ. It's not sensible to say a new director will ruin the movie, we have no way of knowing. If a new director does get the part they have my sympathies though, because measuring up will be difficult.

Do not underestimate Sam Raimi's movies. He had done so great movies like Spiderman series and so on. www.imdb.com/name/nm0000600/More of his works can visible by pressing on the link

^Er, I don't recall saying anything about Sam Raimi?
I think that Sam Raimi is a great director, but not for The Hobbit or anything like it.
And besides, does Spiderman seem anything like LotR to you? No. LotR is completely different and it requires a different style - and maybe talent - which some have and some don't. While he does works very well with modern day movies like Spiderman, I don't feel that he's well suited for the job of directing the prequel to the Lord of the Rings. That's all.
It's just a personal opinion, please don't take it personally (though I don't see why you would..).

Sam Raimi is a great director, I agree Boromir.
Before LotR I dont think PJ had ever done anything like it before. I believe he did mostly horror movies, although the only movie I know he directed was Dead Alive. Coincidentally Raimi has done the Evil Dead series, which is quite similar to PJ's flicks. If Jackson cannot do the Hobbit then I would not be too disapointed with Raimi. Although it's always good to play it safe and go with Jackson.

I am sorry if that was not true word and if that hurt you. I meant he has a skill to make it but PJ is a big loss unfortunately for the Hobbit. Indeed Alexei he is a good director as PJ. I have heard that he works on the fantasy novels.
Again sorry Haldir o Lorien, I do not mean harm to you

^No I think it was a simple misunderstanding. Anyway, I don't know for sure anymore. It was reported and he did say after the trilogy he was done. Maybe the person in the interview wasn't Howard Shore? Someone just made it up? I don't know where you got it from so I can't claim to say so I was just throwing it out there...

Oh no, that is too bad about PJ. I do wish he would just make the Hobbit like everyone wants him to. If we want the LotR trilogy to fit well with the Hobbit, only PJ could achieve that. Another director could make an excellent stand-alone movie, but it simply wouldn't work with PJ's masterpieces. So many fans will be disappointed if it is done wrong!
