What have you been up to, my little neophyte? You're still on the pronunciation lesson, hardly ready to start dealing with complex translation. "Erthad uin philinn" There's no exact word in Sindarin for "alliance" so I took "union" as that was the closest word to it and there you have it. erthad -- alliance/union iun -- of the philinn -- arrows Correction: It would be “Gobeth-i-philinn”. gobeth -- Treaty (a much closer word to Alliance) in -- plural form of “of the”. “Uin” means “from the”. pilinn -- arrows (note that it doesn’t begin with a ph- here. That is something called lenition, covered in Chapter 4.) "Pân an pen" would be "All for one" Correction: “Penath a phen, pen a phenath.” Literally: "All ones for one, one for all ones." The errors: Misunderstanding adjectives (Chapter 2), numbers (Chapter 3), plurals (Chapter 4), and lenition (Chapter 4). Realize that using Sindarin isn't like a James Bond code. You shouldn't be translating words. You should be translating ideas, which is much more complex, but much funner in the end. Both of these translations deal with concepts that you won't learn 'til you’ve completed Chapter 4, and you haven’t finished chapter 1 yet. You shouldn’t be trying these complex translations without having studied them properly! It’s like a first year med student doing a heart transplant. On the other hand, I’m pleased to see how enthusiastic about translating you are. Perhaps this will spur you on through the lessons, and you might just finish the textbook.

Dreamingfifi what textbook are you talking about? I would like to know because learning elvish has always been an interest of mine.

Nice name Corinne! I'm sorry but that's all I can give you. I don't know how to translate elvish. Sorry. But I'm sure someone will be on soon to help you out.
