This is quite a controversial chapter of The Return of The King. Some people say it is an anti-climax after the great wars of the ring, some say it was important to see how the four hobbits were changed during their struggle on their journeys.
How did you feel about this chapter?

I loved it! It's one of my favourite chapters in the whole book! ;D It shows that the war has effected the WHOLE of ME, even small peaceful places like the Shire.

I was still to emotional about the elves leaving to really soak that chapter in. But I suppose it was rather anti-climactic. Like an after thought, as it were.

Eyalan I guess you're right ... they definitely did change after and I really noticed that they were a lot more mature and filled with knowledge and experience from their journey ... I really respected that. It was a really big change, though.

It was. Pippin was always acting like a clutz and I think he really shone towards the end. And look at Sam! We always knew he was a loyal character but it was further proved in Mount Doom. He could have left Frodo there and let him turn in to a Gollum. But he didn't. There were countless times when Sam could have left Frodo and been perfectly legitimate in doing so but he didn't. Even when he was sent away, when he found out about Gollum's lie, he went back. I don't know if I would have done that. I think I would've been to mad at Frodo to go back.

I loved that chapter!! In Rivendell and such, the hobbits were heros, yes, but in the Shire, no one knew they were anything special. And then they come home with these swords and all this armour and just really knock everybody's socks off. I thought it was really cool....

Too bad Hobbits don't appreciate dressing up, but I think they made up for it by defeating Saruman. *Exalt Luthien for becoming a dwarf in no-time!

A Nazgul now! Good job! Anyway, I really appreciated how it didn't turn them into ego-stuffed moronic losers because no one even knew about it! The hobbits are a very sheltered race.

I didn't really like it, they just get back from destroying the ring and this is what they have to put up with!!! Also they shot wormtounge with little hobbit bows, lol.
